This piece was based on a photo of soprano Renee Fleming. I couldn't find yarn in a blonde skin tone, so I made her brunette. I should have this piece finished by Thanksgiving.
Virigina Madsen. This is based on a photograph of her. Her hair, hands, and dress were (painstaking) cut out of copper foil and soldered.
Daniel Benzali, my favorite tough guy. This is based on photographs of him. I didn't know at the time that he had a Chinese rendition of his name. So, I spelled it the best I could in characters. It turns out it is actually spelled 丹尼尔・本泽利. Oh well, it's too late to go back and fix it.

The novella opens with her father's funeral and her awareness, as a child, of the seriousness of the situation.
Things go from bad to worse and she descends into prostitution in order to survive, and support her mother.
After she's arrested it's revealed that she's been recounting her dire life story from the jail cell the whole time.
