Her father dies and things go from bad to worse.
She descends into prostitution to support herself and be her own boss.
She ends up in jail. The crescent moon is the only consistency in her life. These could also be the illustrations for Nawal El Saadawi's Woman at Point Zero, except the motif in that story is a pair of judgmental eyes that follow her.
